 QuickBooks Error 12002 occurs when QuickBooks fails to use the Internet Connections on your computer. This can be caused due to a network timeout or a slow internet connection. The following error codes are likely to appear when you try to download QuickBooks payroll or updates:

Reasons Behind QuickBooks Error Code 12002

  1. QuickBooks is unable to access the server due to a Network timeout.
  2. Incorrect SSL settings can lead to “Error Code 12002”.
  3. Your Internet Security or Firewall settings are disrupting the connection.
  4. Error 12002 can also occur due to the poor internet connection.
  5. You might not have Internet Explorer as your default browser.

Methods to Resolve QuickBooks Error 12002

There are several ways to fix “Error Code 12002”. Moreover, we have listed some of them to help you resolve the issue quickly:

Method 1:

    • First of all, close QuickBooks and open Internet Explorer.
    • Now select Tools and then choose Internet Options.
    • Next, choose the Security tab and make sure that the security setting is set to Medium-High.
    • Finally, click on the Globe icon and choose the Content tab.

  • You need to make sure that the content advisor button is Enable.
  • Now, click on the Connections tab and follow the steps given below:
    1. Choose Never Dial a Connection.
    2. Make sure that you choose the right ISP and click Ok.
    3. Then you have to select the LAN Settings option.
    4. Check that automatically detect settings check box is enabled.
    5. Verify that Use a Proxy Server checked is Disable.
    6. If you see port 8o then uncheck the box.
    7. Lastly, click Ok.
  • Now, you have to select the Advanced tab:
    1. Click on the Restore Advanced Settings option.
    2. Then, search Use TLS 1.0, Use TLS 1.1, and Use TLS 1.2 options
    3. Ensure that Use TLS 1.0 is checked and the others are unchecked.
  • Now, close the Internet Options and select OK.
  • Shut down Internet Explorer and restart your PC.
  • You have to open QuickBooks and try to update again.

Method 2:

  1. The first step is to select Help, then click on Internet Connection Setup.
  2. Now, select “Use my computer’s Internet connection settings to establish a connection when this application accesses the Internet”.
  3. Perform the update again:
  4. QuickBooks 2008 and newer versions: Select Help and click on Update QuickBooks >> Update Now tab.
  5. QuickBooks 2006 and previous versions: Select File and click on Update QuickBooks >> Update Now tab.

Method 3:

  1. First of all, open QuickBooks, go to Help, and check your Internet Connection Setup.
  2. Now, click on Internet Connection Setup.
  3. Verify that your connection is set to utilize your PC’s internet connection.
  4. Then, click on Next and Done.
  5. Finally, update again to see whether the issue is rectified.

Method 4:

  1. The first step is to click on the Update Now tab.
  2. Now, select the Reset Update checkbox.
  3. Click on the Get Updates option and if the update fails, follow these steps:
    • Click on the Restore Advanced Settings option.
    • Search Use TLS 1.0, Use TLS 1.1 and Use TLS 1.2 options
    • Ensure that Use TLS 1.0 is checked and the others are unchecked.
